Our February meeting was a real treat for the senses as we delved into the world of artisan dairy. The evening, featured a guest talk by Wade from Ashfield Cheese.
Local Flavours and History
Wade, who runs a popular stall at the Sutton Indoor Market, shared the story of his business and his passion for sourcing from local suppliers. He gave us an insightful look into the history of cheese before leading us through a guided tasting session.
We sampled a diverse range of cheeses, including:
White Stilton
Blue Stilton
Red Leicester
Lincolnshire Poacher
Derbyshire Sage
Lemon Crumble
It was interesting to see the different ratings from our members - some preferred the traditional sharp blues, while others were pleasantly surprised by the zest of the Lemon Crumble.
It was lovely to welcome visitors from our neighbouring WI, the Sutton Belles, who joined us for the evening. We also held our usual raffle, which is always a nice way to round off the night.
Venue Update
Due to ongoing refurbishments at The Rushley, the meeting was held at the William IV Pub in Mansfield. The staff looked after us well, and we will be returning to the pub for our March meeting as the work on our usual venue continues.
