November 2022 - 'Tis the Season' a very Victorian Christmas

This month we kicked off the festive season early with lady historian, Mildred Freeman. Mildred guided us through the Christmas customs and traditions from the Victorian times, from the panto to turkeys, the dangerous occupation of Carol singing, Christmas cards, feasting, Christmas trees, parlour entertainments and the wonders of the novel new ‘Bangs of Anticipation’, she even included carol singing and a musical bell solo!

We also had a special guest, Ellen, a representative from the domestic abuse charity Butterfly. Our members have all donated a tote bag full of toiletries and essentials for the victims of domestic abuse and Ellen came to collect them. Pictured is Ellen with President Andrea. Well done ladies!
